Patellofemoral Syndrome: Understanding and Managing Knee Pain

Patellofemoral Syndrome (PFS), commonly known as "runner's knee," is a frequent cause of anterior knee pain. It affects athletes and non-athletes alike, often resulting from overuse, misalignment, or muscle imbalances.

Key Symptoms:

Dull, aching pain around the kneecap
Pain during activities like running, squatting, or climbing stairs
Discomfort after prolonged sitting

Causes:
PFS can stem from repetitive stress on the knee joint, improper tracking of the kneecap, or weakened hip and thigh muscles.

Treatment & Management:

Physical Therapy: Targeted exercises to strengthen the quadriceps, hips, and core.
Activity Modification: Reducing high-impact activities temporarily.
Stretching: Improving flexibility in the hamstrings and calves.
Taping or Bracing: To support proper kneecap alignment.

Prevention Tips:

Warm up properly before exercise
Gradually increase activity intensity
Wear supportive footwear
